I like doing really fast sketches on... well, pretty much anything. Here's a quick scribble that started out as a blob and grew into an angry looking monster.

Here's a drawing I made for one of my illustrations for the Uggy is Green book. I found it while clearing out some papers the other day and thought I'd post it here as it makes a nice pencil drawing. It took a bit of getting right as it was a challenge to make him look excited, and not just happy.

You can see him in the background of this image.

Here's a children's book classic: the Teddy Bear.
I'm currently working on two jigsaws for a client that feature a teddy bear character.
Although I was given a teddy to use, there were still a few things to work out with the design of the bear. Here's some of a stack of sketches I made while trying to get the look right.

Drawing teddy bears is a lot of fun. It's basically a ball for the head and a smaller one for the mouth area. Then another ball for the body. But, as you can see from these two, there's a lot of scope for altering their appearance.

Meet Baby Buddha. A character I've been designing for a client recently. Although this fellow was eventually superseded by a far more cartoony version, I thought I'd post him here as I think he looks too cute to be confined to my sketchbook for eternity.

Here's a super rough sketch I made just for the fun of it. It's a couple of rats in the library, possibly stealing books. I drew the image from my imagination but looking at it now, it's very reminiscent of one of the scenes from Ratitoulle. - a brilliant movie if you haven't seen it yet!

The image was drawn in pencil on paper. Although my finished artwork is coloured using the graphics tablet, I find it much easier to do the drawing part the old fashioned way. I just can't get the hand-eye co-ordination, no matter how I try. But it's nice to get away from the PC anyway and draw traditionally.
